Author Guidelines

Documents required for the submission of papers.

Read and download the publication guidelines (PDF English) (DOC English).  Please read carefully the guidelines for authors, as it contains all the information for the submission of originals.

Read the rules because there are two documents that you must send:

1) Separate sample letter of commitment (must be sent in Word format. Without it, the paper will be rejected).  This letter could be obtained from de Authors’ Guidelines.

2) Response sheet to reviewers (in case of a decision of “need revisions”). This sheet should be pasted at the beginning of the manuscript. It should indicate the changes made to the manuscript or a justification if authors do not consider any of the reviewer’s comments to be relevant. Otherwise, the second round of review will not be started.

Tutorials.

  • Tutorial for authors: document editing process, once approved. Videotutorial  (in Spanish)
  • Tutorial for reviewers: document revision process. Videotutorial  (in Spanish)

The journal publishes in English and Spanish. Articles submitted to the journal must be unpublished and must not have been submitted to other publications. Authors can find here a tutorial on how to submit a paper through the platform. The proposed article can be submitted in English or Spanish (only one of them). If the article is accepted, the authors will proceed to translate the manuscript. All authors must be indicated on the initial METADATA page of the application, as they cannot be added at a later date. Likewise, they must be indicated in the order of signature of the article in case of acceptance.

The article must be accompanied by a cover letter expressly confirming these two points, accepting the regulations and conditions of the journal and signed by the author(s). In this document, authors must indicate the following data:

  • Title of the article (in any of the above-mentioned languages).
  • Authors (first name initial and full surname).
  • Name and address of the institution where he/she works for correspondence.
  • E-mail address of the author(s).
  • Text by which the authors declare that the article is original and unpublished and that it has not been sent to any other journal. This document will be stored as a complementary file in the corresponding section of the computer platform when the article is sent. This letter can be found in the Authors’ Guidelines at the following link.
  • In the case of articles signed by more than one person, authors should report on the criteria chosen to decide the order of signature and on the specific contribution made by each of them to the published work.
EJME also accepts reviews of publications related to any of the thematic lines of this journal, which will be sent to the “Dissemination of publications” section.

The template for the “Reviews” section can be downloaded here, following the same submission procedure as for articles and monographic documents.

Structure

Download the template to write your article and the response document to the reviewers. In it, you will find the formats that must be included and in the following link you will find other considerations regarding the anonymisation of the document, which are essential for the document to be accepted for evaluation. Another essential requirement is the use of JCR and SCOPUS bibliographic references.

Research articles submitted must contain at least the following sections:

  • Introduction: a brief explanation that allows the reader to understand the text.
  • Theoretical review -if relevant-: this section relates the scientific theories that support or refute the scientific work that follows.
  • Method: this should include the centre where the research experiment has taken place, explicit mention of the ethical rules of research, the characteristics that have been studied, the sample selection criteria and the techniques used. In quantitative studies, the statistical techniques should be described in detail.
  • Analysis of results: a description (not an interpretation) of the observations in relation to the methodology used should be included. The description should be complemented with graphs and tables.
  • Discussion: should include the authors’ opinion on the object studied, the importance and practical application of the results, considerations on the inconsistency of the methodology or the validity of the results, a summary of similar published works -or reviewed in the theoretical review- indicating the areas or issues in agreement or disagreement with what is stated in the article, suggestions for possible research work along the lines of the article. The aim is to establish a theoretical discussion, not a list of results or a summary of research.
  • References: documents from journals indexed in JCR-SCOPUS should be included, corresponding to 75% of the references cited.

Text format

The document must conform to the standards indicated in the template (click here to download the template).

Modifications after the reviewers’ review must be made by filling in the reviewers’ response document (the template for which can be found at the end of the Publication Guidelines document), which will be placed in the initial pages of the manuscript. This document will be in accordance with the template that can be found in the journal’s standards document. The following text formats are recommended:

  • Use a single font size: Times New Roman.
  • Justify the text.
  • Do not change the style of headings, titles or sub-headings in the text (e.g. using bold, italics, etc.).
  • Do not use any style, except italics for unusual expressions and literal citations. References cited in the bibliography should be formatted according to APA 6th standards. Ed.
  • Indent the text according to the indications in the template. It would be advisable to prepare the response document to reviewers (in the final section of the Publication Guidelines) to speed up the second-round review process.
  • The pages should be numbered consecutively, with their number placed as indicated in the template. It is desirable to download the response document to the reviewers, to speed up the second round review process.
  • The format of the document should be Word or RTF.
  • The initial article should be a maximum of 6600 words excluding references.

The final article will be between 6,500 and 8,000 words. The first version submitted for the first time will be a maximum of 6500 words.

The abstract should be 200 words and should include at the end 4 key-words written in both languages taken from the ERIC thesaurus (mandatory). Under no circumstances should it contain references. The traditional IMRYD format must be followed. Tables and graphs must be in black and referenced with a number in their header next to the explanatory text. They must be clear and facilitate their correct interpretation.

The bibliography should be at the end of the article, on pages separate from the main body of the text. Bibliographical references should be representative, easily accessible to the reader and should be no more than twenty. The format of the references should follow the APA 6th. Ed. (American Psychological Association, 7th edition). It will be mandatory for authors to use 75% of bibliographic references indexed in JCR (ESCI, SSCI, AHCI) and SCOPUS.

Once the document has been accepted, the editing process will begin. You can consult the following tutorial for this process.

Avoid working with problematic formats (Open Office or Microsoft Office for MacOS) BECAUSE THE TEMPLATE WILL BE ALTERED AND THE DOCUMENT WILL BE REJECTED UNTIL IT FITS INTO THE TEMPLATE: it is recommended to type over it and not paste because it changes If you prefer to paste, Microsoft Word has a special paste (paste without formatting) that works without changing the template formatting.

Text returned up to twice for this type of incorrect formatting will not be checked a third time.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The request has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal; for this purpose, a letter of commitment must be attached as an attachment to the submission of the paper. This letter could be obtained from de Authors’ Guidelines. If this letter is not attached, the submission will be rejected. Remember to consult the tutorial for the submission of articles through the platform and this other tutorial for the process of editing the document, once it has been accepted for publication.

  2. The file sent is in Microsoft Word format and the information regarding the document creator (Document Properties) has been removed.

  3. Web addresses have been added for references where possible, as well as the DOI of the articles cited in the References section. 75% of the references are indexed in JCR and SCOPUS.

  4. If you have already written your work, download this template and paste your work in the corresponding places. It would be convenient to download the response document to the reviewers, to expedite the review process in the second round.

  5. The text complies with the bibliographic and style requirements indicated in this template. It would be convenient to download the response document to the reviewers,to expedite the review process in the second round.

In addition, self-references have been placed in the text as: (Author 1, 2016). In the References section, such work should be cited alphabetically ordered as: Author 1 (2016). Self-reference anonymized by the editor. Any mention of places, centers, institutions and the like that allow identification of the authorship of the work MUST BE REMOVED, changing it to “anonymized center”, “anonymized university”, “anonymized region” and other similar terms.

Any failure to comply with these two guidelines will result in the rejection of the article proposed for publication.

  6. If you are submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, you need to make sure that the instructions in “Ensuring a blind review” have been followed. In the following link For more information about the anonymization process that must be followed for the document to be accepted for evaluation, you can check the indications on the anonymization process to be followed.
